Pedestal sinks are sinks that sit on a single pedestal and are good choices for small bathrooms. They have a sophisticated quality a strong presence. Pedestal sinks are often made of porcelain or marble and are all one piece rather than a sink that sits on top of a table or stand. Pedestal sinks do not leave much room for storage under the sink or even a space for a basket because often times the pedestal flares towards the floor. This type of sink is best suited for a powder room in a foyer or somewhere that no storage of bathroom grooming items is necessary. Vessel sinks are sinks that sit on top of a counter rather than being lowered into or mounted under it. Most often the vessel is a round bowl shaped vessel but the basin can be any size or shape. Other than bowls, square basins are popular. Vessel sinks can be made out of a variety of materials but the most popular are glass, stone, or metal. The vessel can sit directly on the counter or on a base which builds it up more. If you have this kind of sink you need to think carefully about the faucets that you use. They need to be able to get the water up and over the vessel edge and the controls need to be easily accessible. Vessel sinks are trendy and are most often seen in homes that feature modern design and decorating. You can use a vessel sink in any bathroom that has counter space.
Granite counter tops with an under mount sink are one of the nicest finishes you could put into a bathroom. To install an under mount bathroom sink you will need the people you buy the granite from to install the sink in place when they install the counter top. They will drill the holes to accommodate your bathroom faucets. After the sink is set and dried you can do your drain and water hook-ups. If you have a ceramic or porcelain bathroom sink going into your bathroom vanity you will need to use silicone to hold the sink into place. Also a molded counter top with a sink will have to be silicone to the top of your bathroom vanity. Steel bathroom sinks will have clamps that hold the sink in place. Pedestal sinks are the second type of bathroom sink. This type uses a pedestal to hold up the sink. The pedestal is used to conceal the p-trap and the drain. All the pedestals that I have installed are white in color. This will pretty much decide your other fixtures color. (toilet and shower or bathtub)
Under-Mount Sinks, also known as bottom mount sinks require a mounting kit. As the name suggests are placed underneath the surface of the bathroom counter. This means the edges of the cut for the sink will be visible so they need to be polished or clean because the sink literally sits under the counter below the hole. These bathroom sinks can be very attractive and provide a contemporary look, but they can be more costly. Bathroom Pedestal Sinks have an elegant, clean look. They are basically a basin attached to a single stem stand with a look that flows together. Unlike some bathroom sinks the basin and stand are a single unit. This style of sink doesnt provide any storage space below.
In this case, if you are not experienced at DIY, you may be best advised to hire a plumber to come and fit the sink for you. This should not be an overly expensive investment, however, it is obviously important that your sink and water pressure is properly fixed. When you have made the decision which sink to buy, you need to decide where to buy the sink from. One of the deciding factors can sometimes be what warrantee each company is willing to provide. Always do your research to find a reputable company, and try to make sure that the company has a good reputation within the industry and that they have positive reviews.
Glass vessel sinks are a beautiful choice for a bathroom sink, but they are not maintenance friendly. You have to be careful about scratching and mineral deposits. Youll want to wipe down after every use with a soft towel and a nonabrasive cleanser or glass cleaner. Not a good choice if you have kids who will be using the bathroom sink. Vessel sinks also come in metals, as do the other styles. Metals such as stainless steel, copper and bronze produce add appealing look to your bathroom remodel. Caution though, all metals will scratch. You will need to exercise caution in your choice of cleaning products, stay away from the abrasives. If you are doing a bathroom remodel and want to make it handicap accessible, then choose a wall mount sink. These are height adjustable, allowing for wheelchair access or a lower height for childrens use. They can also be a good choice for the small bathroom since they conserve floor space. Your choice of bathroom sink should be considered at length. From choosing what type, to what material, to what fits in your budget, choose carefully and knowledgeably.
